Jojoba oil comes from a desert plant that grows in the American Southwest and Mexico. It has long been used as a natural hair and skin conditioner. Technically a wax, liquid jojoba oil acts like our own natural scalp’s sebum, protecting and conditioning the skin and hair. Unlike most vegetable oils, jojoba oil is molecularly small enough to penetrate and be absorbed by the skin, scalp and hair shaft. There are a number of ways to treat the hair with jojoba oil. Try dipping the tips of your hairbrush into the oil and brushing it through the hair. Or try a traditional warm oil treatment by applying the oil directly to the scalp and hair, letting it soak in for an hour, and then washing out. Jojoba oil can also be used to easily and effectively remove cradle cap from infants’ scalps. Additionally, jojoba oil has several uses as a carrier oil in
aromatherapy preparations, it is an effective eye makeup remover and it can be used to moisturize the entire face.
