B O D Y T I M E, the original Body Shop, opened in 1970 by sisters-in-law, Peggy Short and Jane Saunders set the stage for what is now known as the natural, organic bath and body care products industry. Body Time specializes in botanical personal care products with sustainably and organically produced pure aromatherapy essential oils, perfumes (including the original and trademarked, China Rain® Perfume Oil), skin care products for the face and body, soaps, lotions, hair care products and gifts. In addition to our online mail order service that operates out of our Berkeley, California headquarters, there are four Body Time retail stores in the San Francisco Bay Area: two in Berkeley and one each in Marin County (San Anselmo) and Oakland.
Our beauty and bath industry firsts — encouraging customers to bring back bottles for a refill and a discount; choosing from our extensive selection of concentrated perfume oils and essential oil blends to custom scent lotion, body shampoo or body oil; and providing the tools to create original blends by mixing several oils together (which can also be diluted with our base to make a cologne) — are emulated the world over.
In 1987, we sold our name, The Body Shop, to the English company. Today, Peggy Short's daughter, Manda Heron, is the owner and CEO.
